With hotel operator named, work set to begin on massive Midtown project - Date 09/05/2014
The developer of the massive Buckingham Midtown project announced today that Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will serve as the development's hotel operator, paving the way for construction to begin. Buckingham Cos. named Kimpton today in a news release announcing the start of construction at the two-acre site, located at the intersection of 21st Avenue South, Broadway and Division Street, across from Vanderbilt University. The hotel will feature 180 rooms. Buckingham Midtown is a 17-story, 600,000-square foot, mixed use development. In addition to the hotel, it will feature 350 apartments and 35,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
Construction to begin on large, mixed-use development in Midtown - Date 09/05/2014
Crews are expected to begin construction of the large mixed-use development set for two acres of property in Midtown. The property, temporarily named Buckingham Midtown, sits at the intersection of 21st Avenue South, Broadway and Division Street, adjacent to Vanderbilt University's campus. Buckingham Companies hopes the project will bring “an eclectic mix of residents and retail opportunities that will advance Midtown as an energetic, walkable district.” It will be 17 stories tall and include 350 apartments, a 180-room full-service hotel and 35,000 square feet of meeting space. “The project's design has evolved and is intended to be reflective of and responsive to the creative and passionate feel of the Midtown area,” said Scott Travis, vice president of development at Indianapolis-based Buckingham Companies. Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants has been chosen to operate the hotel. Mike Depatie, the president and CEO of Kimpton, said the company has long admired the eclectic vitality of Nashville and are excited to bring their hotel to the area.

Buckingham Companies awarded Kimpton the management contract for the hotel, which will be part of a 17-story, 600,000-sq.-ft., mixed-use project, tentatively named Buckingham Midtown. The Buckingham Midtown development is LEED-designed and will include the hotel, a restaurant and bar, 35,000 sq. ft. of ground-level retail space, 350 apartments and 630 parking spaces. The hotel is anticipated to open in late 2016. “We selected Kimpton as our hotel partner because of its extensive experience with boutique concepts, the strength of its brand and the high level of creativity it brings to a hotel experience,” said Scott Travis, SVP of development for Buckingham Companies. “Kimpton and Buckingham Companies are working together closely to create a new style of hotel specifically suited to the Nashville market.”

Kimpton will operate a 180-room full-service hotel at Buckingham Midtown, with the developer now looking for tenants for the 35,000 square feet of ground level retail space also planned at the development, which will include 350 apartment units.
Demolition of the existing structures on the two-acre site will begin next week, with full completion of the project expected in early 2017. The site fronts Nashville's 21st Avenue South and Division Street and is bounded to the north by 21st Avenue, to the south by the alley behind Bound'ry, Giovanni Ristorante and South Street restaurants, to the east by 20th Avenue South and to the west by Mellow Mushroom.

Buckingham Companies announced it will begin construction of the two acre site at the intersection of 21st Avenue South, Broadway and Division Street, adjacent to the Vanderbilt University campus. The project will bring an eclectic mix of residences and retail opportunities that will advance Midtown as an energetic, walkable district.
Site preparation will make way for vertical construction, to start later this year, of a 17-story, 600,000-square-foot, mixed-use development that will include 350 apartments, a 180-room full-service hotel and 35,000 square feet of ground level retail space. It will bring 630 parking spaces and, through the hotel, approximately 6,500 square feet of meeting space to the area. Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will operate the full-service hotel.
